Global Recycling Day 2019 - Recycling For The Future
Every year, we transform billions of natural resources into consumables. But, at some point, there is going to be nothing left. As a planet, we must come together and give a thought to what we throw away – seeing not the waste, but the opportunity.
After the successful launch of Global Recycling Day in 2018, by Ranjit Baxi, the founding president of Global Recycling Foundation, the GRF has announced the theme for 2019 as “Recycling for the Future”. This year, Global Recycling Day will focus on modernisation, youth and education to ensure a positive and better future for the planet earth.
Global Recycling Day – The MottoThis day was created to celebrate the importance of recycling in protecting our primary natural resources – water, air, oil, natural gas, coal and minerals. Intending to bring the people together and first-class ways to put our planet first, Global Recycling Day highlights the significance of recycling every day, celebrating the power of seventh resource – the recycled waste.“It is way too easy to neglect the world’s natural resources, but they will eventually run out”, says Ranjit Baxi. “It is important that people adopt “resource, not waste” algorithm, but to make this easier, we need solutions”, he adds.
Recycling into the Future – Why is it Important to Follow Resource, not Waste Mind-set?
To channel the power of recycling, it is vital that we unite together and find innovative solutions that young people across the globe can use. The youth is the future. Therefore, we must ensure to develop a “resource, not waste” mindset to go forward to a sustainable tomorrow. This year, on March 18, we should see this day as an opportunity to empower the youth, raise awareness and develop new solutions to ensure that the world thinks resource, not waste when it comes to recycling.
Recyclables are the precious seventh resource, not something useless that is to be thrown away. It can be:
- Used again and again
- Used to combat climate change (saves 700 million tonnes of CO2 emissions)
- Used to generate 1.6 million jobs worldwide
- Conserve our 6 main natural resources
By thinking about what we have dumped or thrown away, we have the power to change the world. However, the power of recyclables is still not recognised that well at the global level, and the earth bears its consequences. Let’s unite towards the global approach of recycling. It is about time, we put the planet first!
