Used in combination with upstream screw presses after washing for target moisture of less than 5%
Single or two stage flash dry systems are used in order to remove surface moisture from plastic film with the aim of achieving final moisture below 5% to allow free flowing feed of the film flake into the downstream extrusion process. During the drying process, wet material is fed vertically into the material in feed hopper, where it comes into contact with a hot air stream. Material then passes through a high pressure fan where any remaining wet clumps of flake are broken up by the beating action of the fan impellor. The separated flakes are then conveyed in the hot air stream along a series of insulated pipes and bends and discharged from a Cyclone. Dry material is discharged from the base of the Cyclone through a rotary valve whilst moisture is discharged through the top of the Cyclone. Filter bags are connected to the top of the Cyclone to collect dust. Alternatively, the Cyclone may be connected to a reverse pulse dust collector. Typical drying temperature is 60 to 80C. Heating units are of modular design allowing the use of up to 4 x 27kW heaters in order to achieve the desired drying. Capacity: 500 to 700 kg/hr when drying PE film with 8% inlet moisture to achieve a final moisture below 5%.Standard units are fabricated from mild steel, however, stainless steel contact parts are available on request.
